What a great way to discover the history and highlights of Canberra. This small group tour operator has an extensive knowledge of Canberra and provides a casual but informative and interesting experience for guests by visiting the major landmarks. The lunch venue at new Parliament House provided a wide selection of meal options. Finishing the tour with a visit to the Australian War Museum for the Last Post Ceremony provided a memorable moment for reflection.
Our guide was very friendly and knowledgable of Canberra and its attractions, and accomodated our sight-seeing requests. The day tour covered many main attractions, including the War Memorial, Parliament house (new and old) and the embassies. The tour was most enjoyable is highly recommended.
Before visiting Canberra recently, my Sister and I booked a Highlights of Canberra day Tour and we are so very happy that we did. Our tour guide was awesome, friendly and she was also very informative and along with the 4 other great passengers with us, made for a terrific day had by us all. We highly recommend this tour when visiting Canberra.
The best way to get to know a city is to view it through the eye of a local - and a very knowledgeable one at that. Neil was fantastic. Not only did he answer every question We had but he had some interesting anecdotes to share which brought all the experiences to life. A great way to get an overview of all the tourist spots and the layout of the City and you can then do further exploring on your own later. Canberra has so much to offer- a great long weekend getaway and this tour was just lovely. We can highly recommend it
This comprehensive full-day Canberra City Sightseeing Tour is a superb introduction to Australia’s capital city. You’ll be picked up from your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, before meeting your expert local guide and the rest of your small group of fellow guests. The tour begins with a short drive up to the peak of picturesque Mount Ainslie, where you’ll take in the far-reaching views and hear some of the history of this relatively young city. It was laid out by US architect Walter Burley Griffin. Burley Griffin’s design was selected from more than 130 plans submitted by architects and town planners from Australia, North America and Europe in 1912.
From there, you’ll drive through the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and depending on the day, perhaps to Mount Pleasant to enjoy a different aspect of the city and beyond.
Next, this Canberra City Sightseeing Tour heads for the famous Parliamentary Triangle — home to the country’s key federal legislative bodies. One of the absolute highlights of the day is a visit to Old Parliament House for a guided tour. This much-loved building was the seat of the Parliament of Australia from 1927 to 1988 and is packed with history and memorabilia.
New Parliament House is located just up the hill, and here you’ll stop for a break and some lunch (at your own expense) before enjoying a guided walk through the modern home of Australian democracy. Designed by New York architects Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp, construction of the complex began in 1981 and it was officially opened in 1988. See key pieces from ‘the House’s’ art collection along the way, and keep your eyes peeled for high profile parliamentarians.
Later in the afternoon you’ll drive through the diplomatic district and see various foreign embassies, before heading to the Australian War Memorial. No visit to Canberra would be complete without seeing this imposing edifice, which honours the involvement and loss of the country’s service personnel in armed conflicts as far back as the 1880s. The memorial is comprised of a commemorative shrine (which houses the Hall of Memory and its Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier), a museum and an extensive archive. After exploring the memorial, you’ll attend the moving Last Post Ceremony.
This Canberra City Sightseeing Tour will ensure you see the best of the capital and gain an understanding and appreciation for its fascinating history. It’s a fabulous experience.
