Such a beautiful little town! Tour guide Tim was wonderful. He was able to give lots of info not only on the town of Richmond but also walked through the jail with me and told me a lot of the history of the jail and some of its inmates. So interesting but such a sad part of our history. The town of Richmond is so picturesque! Even though the weather was less than ideal it was still a lovely little town. Recommend you visit the lolly shop for a hot chocolate especially on a cold wet day like today! Highly recommend this tour.

This Hobart Full Day City Tour is a fabulous all-round introduction to the Tasmanian capital. You’ll have the services of a local driver/guide to show you many of the city’s landmarks, and enjoy a visits to the summit of majestic kunanyi/Mount Wellington and the heritage township of Richmond. All you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Your day begins with the convenience of hotel pick-up and a scenic journey up to the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, which rises almost 1,300 metres behind the city. Mount Wellington often has its head in the clouds, but regardless of the conditions a visit to the summit is a breathtaking experience. The spectacular vistas from the observation shelter and boardwalk will take your breath away.

From there, the tour continues on to the suburb of South Hobart and one of Hobart’s best loved landmarks — the historic Cascade Brewery. There’s time for a stop at the Cascade Gardens and an optional walk to view the 19th century exterior of the brewhouse. You’ll also see the remains of the Female Factory — a former female convict prison, which dates back to the 1850s.

Travelling through the CBD, you’ll pass Sullivans Cove (Hobart’s birthplace), Parliament House, and the Georgian-era warehouses of Salamanca Place, before arriving at the magnificent Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens for some free time. This 14-hectare cool climate horticultural wonderland is full of photogenic highlights, including the lily pond, fernery, and regal Anniversary Arch.

Finally, you’ll spend approximately two hours exploring the historic village of Richmond — one of Australia’s oldest settlements, which dates back to the 1820s. The town is packed with heritage highlights, including the oldest convict-built road bridge in Australia. Taste some of the surrounding Coal River Valley’s wines and local produce (at your own expense), shop for unique gifts, and perhaps visit the old Richmond Gaol (additional cost applies).

This Hobart Full Day Sightseeing Tour ends back in the CBD at around 5pm.

Optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Take a walk on Tassie’s wild side by adding an optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to your tour. Situated in the Brighton Valley — just a short drive from Richmond — this renowned wildlife park is home to a variety of native birds and animals — including the unique and often misunderstood Tasmanian devil. Bonorong operates a wildlife rescue service across Tasmania and provides a variety of ‘up-close’ encounters with Australia’s most iconic animal species (additional costs may apply). Stroll the grounds of the sanctuary and hand feed kangaroos, wallabies, and emus.
