We did the hop on hop off tour of Hobart and we were glad we got the two day pass. One day would not have been enough, given they don’t run very late. We also got the side trip to Mount Wellington. It was well worth the visit, and Christian our driver was brilliant. He made the day!

I must acknowledge that the company has no control over the weather, but as the driver said over the two way, zero visability at all three lookouts. Nothing to see but fog. I am not sure that the suggestion to phone the office and they might be able to get us on another trip, one or two at a time, sometime in the next two or three days, was particularly helpful. One hour loops so a bus only goes past a stop every hour. Standing waiting for a bus not great.

The only bus trip that can get you to the very top of Mt Wellington when there is snow …. and there was snow. The Hop-on Hop-off bus is a great way to see around Hobart and see where to stop and visit. A must is the 48 hr trip.

“Fantastic tour up the mountain and back. Tony the driver of the bus was amazing very knowledgeable and even took photos of hubby and I together. Hubby was very happy he could take in the view as he wasn’t driving. It is a far safer option to take this tour than to drive the conditions can be very dangerous.”

Took a ride with this Bus today and Tony our driver was amazing. Very knowledgeable and made the tour fun, even with his “poor dad jokes”.

The hop on/hop off double decker bus was a great way for us to get our bearings on our first full day here. We sat on the top deck so we had a great view and got a commentary all the way around Hobart. We booked a combo which included a 2nd bus tour up to Mt Wellington, which was spectacular. Thanks to our bus driver Christian, who drove us up the narrow road to Mt Wellington and gave a great commentary about the area and its history. Very informative, and because we booked the combo, we got a 2nd day on the hop on/hop off bus.

We took the Red Decker bus to Mount Wellington and we were so pleased with the trip. There were several stops at lookout spots and the water springs on the way, which were terrific, but the best spot was the summit, with its panoramic views and excellent facilities. Luckily it was a sunny day! The driver’s commentary was first class and he drove so carefully, especially on the tight corners, that we really felt very safe.

This Hobart Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour and Mount Wellington Combo gives you two amazing experiences at a reduced price, and is the savvy way to sightsee in the Tassie capital!

kunanyi/Mount Wellington Explorer Bus

Firstly, you’ll board the Explorer Bus in the city and travel 1,270 metres above sea level to the summit of epic kunanyi/Mount Wellington. Enjoy informative commentary from your driver about the various landmarks en route, along with the mountain’s environment and wildlife.

On arrival at the peak, you’ll have thirty minutes to visit the observation shelter and boardwalk lookouts before your return trip to the city. Drink in the spectacular views of Hobart and southern Tasmania, and read the interesting interpretive boards displayed in the shelter. The weather conditions on the mountain can change rapidly. One minute the skies can be clear, and the next, low cloud can roll in enveloping the entire mountaintop. It’s all part of the experience!

Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour (48-hour ticket)

Back in the city, it’s time to ride high on your Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour with Red Decker. The tour route has twenty stops in total, and covers most of the key sights and attractions across Hobart. You can hop on and off the bus at designated stops as many times as you like, or stay on board and do the full 90-minute loop — the choice is yours! And you’ll enjoy engaging commentary on points of interest along the way.

It’s hard to miss these red, open-top, double decker buses as they transport visitors around the city. Hobart is a relatively compact place, but several must-sees are located outside the city centre, including  Wrest Point Casino, Cascade Brewery, and the glorious Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. The tour provides a cost effective way to reach these attractions, and many others. And all the while you’ll enjoy bright and breezy views from the upper deck, or travel in air-conditioned comfort on the lower deck.

The informative commentary is provided in English, and on selected buses, in a choice of seven additional languages (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, and Spanish).

Stops on the route include:

  • Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre
  • Mona ferry terminal at Brooke Street Pier
