You’ll also visit Tolmer Falls, which cascades powerfully over two massive escarpments and can be viewed from a cliffside platform. The gorge into which the waterfall plummets is home to rare orange horseshoe and ghost bats.

Your next stop is probably the most popular spot in the park — Wangi Falls (pronounced wong-guy). There’s time for another swim here, or to take a stroll on the boardwalk walking trail. You’ll see myriad bird species and other wildlife.

In the afternoon, you’ll stop to take in another of the park’s most famous features — its gigantic cathedral termite mounds and magnetic termite mounds. Magnetic mounds aren’t actually magnetic, but run north to south with the broad flat sides facing east and west. They were mistaken for gravestones by early explorers.

  The highlights of the tour were the three waterfalls we visited. Even at the end of the dry season, they still had water cascading into beautiful pools. Being able to swim in two of them was very refreshing and a welcome break from the heat. Our driver/guide did a wonderful job of keeping us well informed. The termite mounds were very interesting and seeing the huge barramundi being fed was a good finish to the day.
