This day trip had it all. Phil the bus driver made sure everyone knew what to do and when. Damo and his companion ran an outstanding trip to Tasman Island and Port Arthur on their tourist speed boats. Be aware that if you suffer from motion or sea sickness, this tour may not be for you. We saw lots of dolphins, seals, and bird life on our tour. The detailed information was presented in an informative, but entertaining way. Highly recommended!

This was an incredible full day trip! The ocean was beautiful, we saw so much marine wildlife and the staff were so nice, our driver Luke was an awesome guy who really looked after us, and the meals included at port Arthur were great. We also learnt that company also uses their funds from the trip go back into wildlife conservation: pennicott tours successfully eradicated feral cats from Tasman Island! Thanks for an amazing experience we’ll never forget!

Our tour guide Luke was excellent and we would recommend going on this full day tour of the Tasman Peninsula with boat cruise to Tasman Island and Port Arthur visit. We were looked after for whole day with any of the experiences and well informed of all history and we’re lucky enough to see Whales of Tasman Island.

Really enjoyed the day. Phil was a really good driver and told us heaps of information on the way down and really looked after us. The cruise was great and the guy who looked after the front of the boat was really good. We saw whales and dolphins. Lunch was good at Port Arthur and got back to Hobart at 6. Did wonder why they didn’t drop back at hotels like the brochure- that was the only small thing we felt the should have done!

You are warned explicitly that this will not be a calm ride. Not a dry one either. Ginger pills are handed out before we started. That being said it is a unique experience enhanced by the knowledge and professionalism of the crew on a boat more aptly characterised as an outsized rubber ducky. It has a roof which I suppose protects you to a degree from any sun. Not the water But this is part of the adventure. You get to see sea birds certainly seals and maybe dolphins in their habitat together with rock formations. Andrew was our skipper and deserves much praise for the safe journey which could just as easily been a very wet one. The meal and Port Arthur tour was enjoyable but all too short and anticlimactic. The bus driver or more accurately tour manager has a discretion to return you to your hotel/car but this is not formally part of the tour and Phil went out of his way to deliver us home. All in all a memorable experience. One point taken off for not enough time at Port Arthur. If I could only take off half a point I would.

This Port Arthur Wilderness Cruise and Tour from Hobart gets rave reviews, and once you’ve experienced it you’ll understand why! It combines an extraordinary wilderness and wildlife viewing cruise with a visit to the fascinating Port Arthur Historic Site, ensuring that there’s something to interest participants of all ages. If you’re travelling with children or young adults and concerned about holding their attention for a full day at Port Arthur, this is the tour for you!

You’ll depart the city early and travel east towards the stunning Tasman Peninsula. The peninsula is almost entirely surrounded by water (with narrow Eaglehawk Neck the only entry point), which made it the ideal location for incarceration of 19th century prisoners from England — most of whom couldn’t swim.

Following your included morning tea, you’ll board Pennicott Wilderness Journeys’ multi-award winning three-hour wilderness cruise at Eaglehawk Neck and follow the coastline around to Port Arthur. The region is home to abundant wildlife, including seals, dolphins, migrating whales, and a variety of birdlife. The custom-built wilderness cruise boats are ideal for viewing wildlife and the spectacular coastline. Each vessel holds a maximum of 43 guests, and the covered tiered seating ensures an excellent all-round view. The boats have an on-board toilet and are safe, comfortable, and gentle on the environment.

As the cruise approaches the Port Arthur Historic Site, you’ll gain a true sense of what it was like for the many inmates that were transported to this isolated location by boat. On arrival, you’ll have ample time to explore the various surviving structures, ruins, and gardens at your own pace. You’ll also enjoy an included lunch at the site, followed by more free time to explore.

Your return transfer to Hobart will depart Port Arthur at 4.30pm, and arrive back in the city at approximately 6pm (with drop-off at your point of departure).

This Port Arthur Wilderness Cruise and Tour from Hobart is an epic day out, and one you’ll always remember!
