We booked this tour while we were Hobart during a cruise ship port stop. The bus was very nice and clean, and very comfortable. The bus driver provided nice commentary on history and current events. The tour to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary was the highlight of the tour. We also went through Richmond on the way back, with a stop there for about an hour. Not much interesting there to see but tourist shops; I recommend doing a tour that does not include Richmond.

We had a free afternoon until our flight and I got us a half day tour to see the devils at an animal rescue and then walk around Richmond. It was a very nice tour. I got to pet a wombat and see the devils. We then had an hour to walk through Richmond village which was very pleasant. Our driver/guide Adam was superb and he could easily be a very expensive private guide. Great personality, you could tell he really likes what he does. I was very impressed with this tour.

I had the bus to myself, Zack was very informative and friendly. Got to spend a couple of hours wandering around Richmond. It’s such a beautiful town full of history and beautifully preserved buildings.

History buffs, this afternoon Richmond Tour from Hobart is a must-do during your stay in the Tassie capital. The Richmond township is a living time capsule that will transport you back to the colonial era. European settlement of the area began in the early 1800s, and thrived with the completion of the Richmond Bridge in 1823. Today, the village has a wealth of convict-built monuments, regal civic buildings, and quaint heritage cottages. The gorgeous gardens, bustling cafes and eateries, and eclectic galleries and gift shops are an added bonus!

Hobart hotel pick-ups completed, the afternoon in Richmond is yours to fill as you see fit. You’ll enjoy a short orientation tour of the town with your driver, before heading off to explore at your own pace. Don’t miss the opportunity to walk across the famous Richmond Bridge or visit the old Richmond Gaol. Both were built by convict hands, and parts of the gaol predate the Port Arthur penal settlement by almost a decade. See the solitary confinement cells, convict holding rooms, and cookhouse (with its original oven). An additional cost applies to enter the Gaol.

This Richmond Tour from Hobart ends with drop-off at your point of departure at around 5pm.

Optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Take a walk on Tassie’s wild side by adding an optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to your tour. Situated in the Brighton Valley — just a short drive from Richmond — this renowned wildlife park is home to a variety of native birds and animals — including the unique and often misunderstood Tasmanian devil. Bonorong operates a wildlife rescue service across Tasmania and provides a variety of ‘up-close’ encounters with Australia’s most iconic animal species (additional costs may apply). Stroll the grounds of the sanctuary and hand feed kangaroos, wallabies, and emus.
