Beautiful experience! Sue was our lively and knowledgeable tour guide. There was not a single boring moment during the trip, as she continuously gave us historical and botanical information. The scene at the waterfall was like a dream!

Considering a day trip from Hobart? Then you cannot go past the Russell Falls tour. This lovely trip follows the Derwent River from Hobart, through the suburbs. then farmland and finally culminating with a leisurely walk through the rain-forest to the delightful experience, ‘that seeing a waterfall up close always brings’. The sight takes your breath away – the huge cliff-face in front of you, surrounded by the tall swamp gums and tree-ferns with the water cascading over the top and falling many meters – was awesome. (In the true sense of the word) We even saw 3 wallaroos amongst the greenery as we walked back through the forest. On the way home, we stopped for an ice-cream treat at a Rasberry Farm. Yum, Delicious. Our guide, Sue, was cheerful, entertaining and very well informed about the sights along the way. She was easy-going and helped all of the guests to become familiar with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day and highly recommend it.

I found all attractions fantastic. All drivers, Greg, Pete and particularly Zoran who lent a helping hand down the steps at Russell Falls, were polite, professional, well informed and friendly.

We had the Russell Falls and Salmon Ponds . Salmon Pond we went in and we took off looking around glad we did as , we then got called to have tea /coffee plus pancake which was nice , then given only 15 minutes to look around, glad we went our way.as this place has a museum etc which others missed, as they waited for tea/coffee, which was not ready when we got there, also did not know it was included in tour The Falls are great , they take you to the top and can walk down better than going the other way.We took our lunch, glad we did as the rest spent most of the time in the restaurant.getting food. we sat out side at picnic table. Greg the bus drive was good and very informative. Stopped on the way back to get blackberrys/rasberrys/cherrys/and ice cream which most tours do.

Sue made our trip to the salmon/trout farm and the walks in the national park fun and fascinating. She shared a great deal of information without being overwhelming. We were able to stop and spend time looking at what interested us (oh, look, a blue mushroom!) and we learned so much about Tassie flora and fauna. A great day!

This Russell Falls Tour from Hobart will sooth your senses as you delve deep into the temperate rainforest of one of Tasmania’s most exquisite wilderness regions. Your passionate local guide will point out places of interest en route to Mount Field National Park — home to the multi-tiered Russell Falls. The falls are surrounded by an almost prehistoric world of giant tree ferns, mossy logs, and babbling waterways. Have your camera charged and ready!

Once hotel pick-ups are completed, this Russell Falls Tour from Hobart heads north-west from Hobart through the beautiful Derwent Valley. Relax on board your comfortable coach as you pass through quaint towns and rolling green hills.

You’ll make a stop at the Salmon Ponds — the oldest trout hatchery in the Southern Hemisphere (it’s been in operation since the 1860s!). Set within what is akin to a traditional English garden, the Salmon Ponds has on onsite museum and cafe. Morning tea (included in the tour price) is served here, and you’ll have an opportunity to feed the trout and salmon.

The pastoral landscape gradually morphs into the dense temperate rainforest of the Mount Field National Park. Birdsong and the rich scent of eucalyptus fill the air as you leave the coach and do a short walk to stunning Russell Falls. Stroll beneath the ancient forest canopy, before returning to Waterfalls Cafe and Gallery at the Mount Field Visitor Centre for lunch (at your own expense). All too soon it’s time to depart the national park and begin the journey back to Hobart.

There may be an opportunity to purchase fresh raspberries from a roadside stall along the way (seasonal and dependent on supply). This Russell Falls Tour from Hobart ends with drop-off at your point of departure at around 4pm.

Optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Take a walk on Tassie’s wild side by adding an optional visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to your tour. Situated in the Brighton Valley, this much-loved wildlife park is home to a variety of native birds and animals — including the unique and often misunderstood Tasmanian devil. Bonorong operates a wildlife rescue service across Tasmania and provides a variety of ‘up-close’ encounters with Australia’s most iconic animal species (additional costs may apply). Stroll the grounds of the sanctuary and hand feed kangaroos, wallabies, and emus.
