‘I was really surprised by Sovereign Hill. It is indescribable. It’s impossible to summarise everything we did there. It is like living a day back in 1850. Everything is perfectly recreated or preserved and in operation. The children who are seen at school are school children who spend three days there living like they did back then. We also visited the Gold Museum, which was fantastic!’

We had an excellent tour guide Richard who shared lots of history about Ballarat and the gold rush story. It was so interesting ! The only thing I disappointed about was we were told to wait at our hotel at 7am. Then there was a shuttle picked us up and dropped us at Federation Square. We had to line up and wait for our shuttle. The wait was at least an hour. With two young boys it was quite a nightmare. But anyway, we enjoyed the trip.

A good way to get a view of how things were back in the 1850s. The site, as the name says, is on a hillside, so not recommended for the out of shape. Was disappointed in the paid mine tour, as it didn’t really show too much.

At Sovereign Hill you are suddenly and miraculously transported back to the Gold Rush in the year 1851. Fortunes were created and a new era of wealth commenced in Australia. The Gold Museum was inaugurated in 1978. The township/shopping complex the snow falling, the music, soldiers firing muskets and the costumes of people walking around makes you feel that you are really living in the bygone era. It is an amazing and marvellous creation. My advice to those who have not been there – it is a must if you are holidaying in Australia.

The service provided by Top Oz Tours was unbelievable and perfect. The level of communication beyond perfect. We booked in February and knew it was pending based on numbers. A few weeks before we were advised numbers had not been reached and were offered options, to wait for numbers, cancel and receive a full refund or choose another tour. We opted to wait. Late Thursday six days before the tour we received advice numbers were not met and were offered the tour at the same price slightly scaled back just for us. We accepted by email early Good Friday morning and indicated we had a few questions but would not expect a reply until Easter Saturday or after Easter. We received a reply Good Friday within hours confirming booking. It was not an automatic reply! That is service. The actual tour was brilliant and tailored to our needs and was exactly as promised. Thank you Adam and well done.
