Every visitor to the Harbour City has the World Heritage-listed Sydney Opera House near or at the top of their must-see list. But don’t just see it — get to know it inside and out on the official Sydney Opera House Guided Walking Tour. You’ll spend a wonderful 60 minutes with a specially trained guide exploring what is undoubtedly one of the world’s most recognisable buildings.
You’ll meet your guide and the rest of your small group at the appointed time, before heading off on your tour at a relaxed pace. As you stroll through the majestic interior, your guide will share the intriguing history of the Opera House — from its highly controversial design and construction, to the recent refurbishments and updates. The building’s distinctive design created a wealth of challenges during the construction phase. Danish architect Jørn Utzon was ultimately dismissed from the project and never saw the completed building that would become an architectural icon.
You’ll also hear about some of the more than 1,500 performances that are staged here every year, including opera, cabaret, musical theatre, comedy and so much more (it’s well worth browsing the Opera House’s website when you’re planning your Sydney visit to find out what’s on).
You’ll see one of the world’s largest pillar-free performance chambers and marvel at the spectacular vaulted ceilings that are one of the hallmarks of the Opera House’s design. As a bonus, you’ll be able to access some areas that are usually off-limits to visitors, and in the process, enjoy some unique photo opportunities.
There’s also the option to upgrade your experience to include a tasting plate of seasonal specialties at the Opera House’s Portside restaurant, or a meal at the waterfront Opera Bar. Both venues offer sublime views of the city, harbour and bridge.
Whether you’re a lover of architecture, history or the arts, this Sydney Opera House Guided Walking Tour will hold you spellbound.
This tour is included in the Sydney Flexi Attractions Pass.
