The popularity of luxury African lodge holidays is on the rise — and with good reason.
A luxury African lodge safari will take your wildlife viewing experience to another level. It will immerse you in the beauty of the bush and enable you to get up close to many of the continent’s most iconic animals — while enjoying absolute comfort in the process!
These standout luxury lodges all offer something really special.
1. Chinzombo Camp, South Luangwa National Park (Zambia)
Situated on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, Chinzombo Camp is operated by Time and Tide Safaris and consists of just six luxurious twin villas — each with a private plunge pool and spa facilities. The villas are beautifully presented and guarantee absolute privacy. Packages include accommodation, meals, standard drinks, laundry, two guided safari activities each day, and airport transfers to and from Mfuwe.

Prime safari season in Zambia runs between June and October each year. These drier months see an abundance of wildlife clustered around local waterholes, which often attracts predators. If you prefer greener pastures, then the best time to visit Zambia is between January and May. The green season is truly breathtaking and is the ideal time to photograph the region’s prolific birdlife.
Time and Tide Safaris’ guides are highly knowledgeable on all aspects of the African landscape and will ensure you don’t miss any of the highlights that your choice of season has to offer.
2. Lamai Serengeti Camp, Serengeti National Park (Tanzania)
Located near the famous Mara River, Nomad Tanzania’s Lamai Serengeti Camp offers a remarkably intimate and rustic luxury lodge experience. Perched on a rocky outcrop known as Kogakuria Kopje, this camp provides guests with some of the best panoramic views in Africa. And from July to October it yields an incredible vantage of the wildebeest migration — and the river crossings that have featured in countless wildlife documentaries.

The lodge has just twelve accommodation options: eight larger suites for families and small groups, and four twin tents in a smaller, private setting — perfect for those seeking complete sanctuary. The decor and design reflect the best of bush luxury, and meld earthy tones with locally crafted furnishings and objet d’art. These elements work together to create a unique sense of connection with the natural world outside.
3. Mara Plains Camp, Maasi Mara National Reserve (Kenya)
With its extraordinary wildlife viewing opportunities, the Maasi Mara is high on the list of must-sees for many visitors to Africa. However, there is a way you can avoid the tourist crush and do it in style. Mara Plains Camp is a boutique tented lodge tucked away in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which sits on the Maasai Mara National Reserve’s northern boundary. Operated by Great Plains Conservation, the camp is surrounded by a 35,000-acre private game reserve — home to a high concentration of big cats (including lion, leopard, and cheetah).

The camp’s decor can best be described as decadent bush elegance, and blends with, rather than detracts from, the splendid natural setting. There are just seven sumptuous twin tents — each with a traditional-style copper bath overlooking the private verandah. Guests have the use of a Canon camera, lenses, and a pair of Swarovski binoculars with which to capture incredible wildlife moments and memories.
Mara Plains Camp is open all year round and is an all-inclusive experience. It’s another fabulous option for seeing the annual migration, which generally occurs during July and August (depending on rainfall). Plan a stay of at least four nights; you won’t want to leave!
