European cuisine
It’s possible to eat your way across Europe without actually leaving Perth. Try Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant up in Joondalup for the flavours of Deutschland, and back towards the city in Mount Hawthorn — the perennially popular Spritz Spizzicheria for quality Italian. Super-chic Bistro Guillaume at Crown Perth dishes up French fare with flair. Ooh la la!

Tastes of Asia
Perth has no shortage of Thai restaurants, but one that’s unmissable is Long Chim. Located in the basement beneath Como The Treasury hotel, this superb eatery serves up spicy Bangkok street food inspired fare in an industrial-chic setting. Essential spices are brought in from Thailand and mixed with the freshest local produce.
If you’re keen to dive into a great Japanese raman, try Nao Raman on Hay Street in the CBD.
Steak and ribs in Perth
One of the hallmarks of Western Australian dining is quality beef, and the steak served in Perth is among the best in the world. Tony Roma’s steakhouse serves juicy prime beef which melts in the mouth. Tony Roma’s is also renowned for great ribs. Smoked to perfection and basted in barbecue sauce, the meat literally falls off the bone. Just be prepared for some sticky fingers!

Fresh seafood
With the Indian Ocean on its doorstep, Perth always serves up the freshest catch of the day. Tony Roma’s is a great option for seafood lovers. Try the pan-seared barracuda or the sea shrimp drizzled with tangy lemon juice and spicy black pepper.
With Greater Perth’s stretch of pristine coastline and glorious beaches, it’s no surprise that enjoying fresh fish and chips by the ocean is popular with locals and visitors alike. Some of the best places to get a fried fish feed include The Groper And His Wife at City Beach, Amberjacks at fabulous Cottesloe Beach, and Seacrest Fish and Chips at Sorrento Beach.
Gourmet food and wine
Western Australia is home to nine wine growing areas, including renowned Margaret River and the Swan Valley — both of which also have thriving artisanal food scenes. Located just 25 minutes’ drive from the CBD, the Swan Valley is an easy day trip option. Meander between the Valley’s 150 gourmet producers and cellar doors, sipping and supping as you go!

Margaret River is located roughly three hours’ drive south of Perth, and is home to a huge number of vineyards, cellar doors, and providores. It’s doable as a day trip — but if you have the time, consider staying a couple of days to really immerse yourself in the tastes of the region.
Pub grub and craft beer brewing
Perth has a vibrant pub scene and plenty of great pub grub on offer. Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub in the CBD is known for its traditional Irish stew, while the Grosvenor Hotel does upscale pub classics in a Victorian-era setting.

Many venues pour locally made brews and you’ll no doubt come across the likes of Baskerville Feral White (from the Swan Valley) and Little Creatures Pale Ale, which hails from the historic port city of Fremantle (just a stone’s throw south of Perth). ‘Freo’, as the locals call it, is generally credited as the birthplace of the Australian craft beer brewing movement. Raise a glass and enjoy a casual meal at the Sail and Anchor Hotel — where the country’s first craft brewery operated in the mid 1980s.
